PILOT DENNIS WISHES TO RESIGN.

MELBOURNE, June 24. Pilot Dennis (who was in charge of theP. and O. liner Australia when she struck on Point Nepean last Monday) has applied to the Marine Board for permission to resign on account ot illhealth. . .11 His application is supported by several medical certificates, showing that his health is generally in'a had state, also that his eyesight is defective.

SALVING OF CARGO RESUMED. (Received June 25, 1.11 a.m.) MELBOURNE, June 24. The sea has considerably moderated, and the salving of the Australia’s cargo was resumed to-day. The preliminary inquiry by the Marine Board has concluded, and a full inquiry ordered. . Pilot Dennis, in his report, states the only reason he can assign for the wreck is that ho was- suddenly taken ill. Consideration of his application for leave to resign is postponed until after the inquiry.
