The prospects of saving the cargo ol tile Australia, which was’ wrecked off Point Nepean on Monday morning, now appear to ho very poor. A south-west gale and a high sea havo been experienced throughout the day, and still continue. .

Tljo captain and the remainder of those on board were taken off early this morning. All salvage operations have been stopped. The Australia lies broadside on, exposed to the full force of the gale.
