FLOURMILLERS' ASSOCIATION.
PKEBS ASSOCIATION. DUNEDIN, Juno 3. A meeting of the Flonrmillers’ Association was held at Tim am last night. An endeavour was made to arrange the difficulty between the companies, but no solution was arrived at. It was officially reported that owing to tho split the Dupcdin mills and those in I other centres had not yet commenced work under the new agreement, which was to have cotho into force on June Ist. Later. The "Daily Times" states that nothing definite is yet settled regarding the Flourmillers’ Association. At present the cutting of prices is confined to Dunedin What complicates the sitnation is the resentment felt by some Dunedin millers at Canterbury firms coming down and quoting flour at under cost, while negotiations for settlement were supposed to be in progress. As far as tho situation can be gauged, the prospects of a settlement are exceedingly remote, and the matter may be fought out to the bitter end. In the event of the present ruinous competition continuing, it is rumoured that more than one mill will close down till prices reach a payable level; nor is it to be expected the present low prices can be confined to Dunedin, dor if Canterbury firms invade this market they may expect the war to be carried into all other centres. CHRISTCHURCH. June 8.
Mr Jameson, secretary of the Miners’ Trust, says the statement that tho trust has broken up is entirely unfounded. The trouble is confined to Dunedin only, and the trust , intends tu continue as before, fighting outsiders in Dunedin only.-
