THE COALITION PROPOSALS. A WORDY ALTERCATION. MELBOURNE, June 2. The proposals of the Federal Premier (Mr Watson) for a coalition wore submitted to a caucus of Deakinites. After discussing both alliances the caucus by 13 to 7 decided against either, and urged that every effort should bo made to maintain the unity and integrity of the Liberal party. Sir John Forrest warmly advocated a coalition with Mr Reid and it is asserted that a warm wordy altercation ensued between Sir John Forrest and Sir William Lyne, the latter declining to have anything to do with Mr Reid, no matter what the caucus decided. THE ARBITRATION ACT. SHALL FARM HANDS BE INCLUDED P (Received June 3, 0.56 a.m.) MELBOURNE, June 2. During ,the debate on the Arbitration Act in the Federal House of Representatives an amendment was moved to exempt farm hands and dairying employees from the operations of the Bill. The Premier (Mr Watson) said ho Svould oppose the amendment by every means in his power. The condition of farm employees—particularly those following the dairying industry—was appalling in the extreme. The debate is proceeding.
