THE AUCKLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS.
In the ladies’ ehigmpionslnp doubles, in connection with tho Auckland Tennis Association’s tournament, Mrs Cooper and Miss Harvey, of, tho North Shore Club, heat the Misses Nicholson, of the West End Club. In the semi-final of the men’s singles Grossman boat Billing. Tho final between Grossman, and Cooke will bo played at Mount Eden to-day. Tho semi-final of the combined event resulted in Billing and M:«s D. Tidy heating Ruddock and Miss P. Gome. The final will ho played this afternoon. In thd finaft or the wen’s doubles Cooke and Turner beat' Paterson and W. A. Brown.
CANTERBURY v. WELLINGTON.
The annual interprovincdal match between Canterbury and Wellington will bo played to-day on the Thorndou courts. The teams.are very evenly balanced, Wellington perhaps 'being strongest ip the men’s division, while the Canterbury ladies should prove slightly iho better. This being tho case the is.uuo should .be loft in doubt until the finish of tho . games., As there will' bo no charge for admission, there is sure to be a'large attendance of tho. public. If the "weather be too wot to allow of play on the Thomdon grass courts, an adournment will, should it bo fine enough, bo made to Brougham Hill asphalt courts in Lloyd street. Air ECaishley has been elected captain of tho Wellington . team and Mr Goss is the Canterbury skipper. will ceminonce- at 10 p’clock..
At tho Daniieyirke teunisi tournar meat, hold on Thursday, the final in the Men’s Handicap Singles was won by Adams, of Palmerston North, who beat W. H. Swainson. Tho former x>layer also appropriated the Champion Singles, beating Cato (last year’s champion) 6 1, (j—3. The final in tho Combined Doubles .was won by Adams -and Alps Gurr. In the final of the Men’s Junior Singles, Ransom beat Robson, GO—34.
