CYCLING.

CHRISTCHURCH CLUB’S MEETING. The New Zealand VWheel Race meeting was brought to a conclusion at Lancaster Park on Saturday afternoon. The weather was favourable, and about 4000 persons were present. The chief item on the programme was a scratch race in which “Major” Taylor, the negro cyclist, competed against leading New Zealand cracks. As on Wednesday, Taylor gave a fine exhibition 'of speed, but not being thoroughly trained was unable to defeat the opposition he was called upon to face, the race being won by the local champion G. Sutherland, who showed remarkably fine form. The win, generally speaking", was popular, though a section of the public hooted Sutherland, apparently being under the impression that he was responsible for Taylor being blocked in the the last round, Taylor having been forced on to the grass. The principal handicap event of the day was won by R. Arnst, who again exhibited splendid form. - The handicaps for the "Major”- Taylor
