THE TRAMWAY BLUNDER.
AAORK TO BE RE-COAIAIE NCED, SOLUTION OF THE,KENT TERRACE DlFFrctiljTY. To-day work will rc-commenco in Kent terrace, where it had been stopped a short time ago owing to the unexpected discovery of tho now much-talkcd-of culvert. This course is being adopted in consequence of a decision of the City Council at its meeting on Friday afternoon. The work of wood-blocking will now proceed apace. The Council has favoured Air AV. R. Wright’s suggestion to out off the top of the arched culvert, and replace it with a concrete ceiling, interlaced with iron. .After two hours’ deliberation it win decided to carry the engineer's recommendations into effect. While it was contended by some Councillors that the culvert, when altered, would ho inadequate to copo with tho rush of water in flood times, it was generally agreed that, tho expense of pulling up that portion of the lino already laid and the equally expensive task of lifting tho wood-blocks now in position would he far too oostly—in fact, almost impracticable. An adjourned meeting of the Council will he held this afternoon, when the position of tho City Engineer (Alt* Rounthwaite) will bo further considered.
