Great movements, whether they succeed or fail, always leave in their ending leaders who recede to obscurity.—Claudius Clear in “British Weekly.” In New Zealand, wo believe, there is a genuine desire for preferential tariffs; but it must not be forgotten that the population of New Zealand is less than that of the West End of Loudon.—“Daily Mail." Fitzgerald's Circus, which commences a tour of New Zealand at the Bluff on the Bth December, is a very strong combination. and ought to do excellent business. The recent Melbourne season was a great success. lu referring to the opening performance the “Age" says: Since they were last in Melbourne Messrs Fitzgerald have added a numbr of potent attractions to their show. First of all perhaps may be mentioned a remarkable trapeze display hy “the Flying Meteors.” Most of the feats executed have been done before in Melbourne, with, however, this difference, that while others have done the various acts in the ordinary way. “the Flying Meteors" are blindfolded. The effect is very remarkable and the excitement of the audience ns the blindfolded performers swing from one bar to another at en altitude of 30 feat or 40 feet, is fearfully intense. Am oiher item which was very cordially received was an exhibition of graceful wire walking by Milo. Ottra. This artist appears on the wire at first dressed in a prettv costume. Rapidly throwing off one dress after another, she npears finally in the wire walker’s usual attire, and goes through a very clever performance. A comic bar act by Messrs Robertson and Wingfield, a hurricane riding item bv Will Henderson, and the perf o’mi no dogs under the direction of Manzo:ii also materially strengthened the p:xgrMiime. It is hardly necessary bo add that the band selections under the guidance of Herr von der Mehden added to the enjoyment of the evening.
