VOLUNTEERS.
Tho first mounted parade of the Horetaunga Mounted Rifles will take place to-morrow evening. There will also te the -election of an officer. OLD NAVALS’ ASSOCIATION. The first social gathering of Wellington Old Navald* Association was held last evening. Li cut. 1 -Colono] ITislop V.D., an ox-officer of th© W.N.A.V., was in tho chair and there were? about fifty-five members of the association presonf. The toasts honoured during the evening wore: —-"‘Tho King”; “Present W.N.A.V./’ "proposed by Mr Tandy and responded to by Mr Haro; "Old Nava Is' Association/’ proposed by P.O. Spark, and responded to by Mr D. Skinner; "Departed Friends” ; "Present Officers of tho W.N.A.V./* proposed by Bandmaster Cimiuo and ror?ponded to by Mr T, Reading. Between the toasts, ‘recitations war© given by Messrs Skinnor and Tandy, and songs by Messrs W. Hare, G. Taylor, G. Reading, G. Parsons, A. Bell and Paletliorpe. In tho course of the evening a letter was read from Captain Bell, the x> roy ent officer commanding the W.N.A.V. He sent his congratulations to {he association and wisWd it every success, and said further that he would always bo pleased to giro it every assistance rn respect to boating, shooting, etc. It is proposed to hold 1 a social gathering once a month if possible. Tho Old Naval:/ Association has now the healthy membership of 103. In addition to this number, seventy-five other ex-members of Wellington naval corps have signified their intention to jo’n. The secretary has received from Mr Waterhouse, Chatham Islands, a letter enclosing a donation to the funds of the association. Letters have been received from all parts of the world from ex-mem-bers wishing to join.
