(Prom Our Own Correspondent). Tuesday. A conference between local butchers and the Borough Council took place to-night to consider the question of tho abattoirs site. Tho butchers expressed a decided preference for the Johnston street site os against that offered by the Wellington Meat Export Company on the Waingawa river. It was finally reswlved to ascertain if further sites are available; if not tbo Johnston street site will probably be decided upon. Another case of scarlet fever was admitted to tlie hospital to-day. Tho secretary of tbo Muucipal Fire Brigade reports having received a number of favourable replies from brigades willing to take part in the demonstration next JanuEjy.
