TENNIS ASSOCIATION.

A special general meeting of tho Now Z/ealand Lawn Tennis Association was held last evening. Mr A. Young presided. Tho following delegates of associations wero present: —C. Eraser. Wellington; A. Jones, Hawke’s Bay; V xouiig. Taranaki; W. 3. Sioman, Auckland: \v. Iroaman, Christchurch; ii. A. Parker, Otago; P. Laishiey Nelson.

Ine main purport of the meeting was the election of a secretary, in place of n.u ,K Baton, now resident in Auckland. b /J 743 OK ly one nomination, thxit or ilr G. N. Goldie, who was proposed bv Mr Eraser and seconded by Air Slowmah. Mr Goldie’s election was carried unanimously. The meeting warmly eulogised Mr Raton a honorary services to tno association during tho past seven cr eight years, and it was decided that a sum of money bo expended in the purchase of a suitable souvenir to be presented to him ou the first opportunity. Messrs Bloman and Laishley were appointed xi sub-committee to attend to th© matCftr.

Mr Goldie, in returning thanks for his election, said ho would do all in his power to further tho interests of lawn tennis Jn New Zealand. H© emphatho point that he must have the support of a “live” council. If h© did not get that tho association must be X>repared to receive his resignation. Mr Freeman moved, “That the Now Zealand Lawn Tennis Association be reorganised, with headquarters at Wellington and tho associations affiliated appoint permanent delegates resident in Wellington to represent thorn.” This was seconded by Mr Goldie and carried. Tile effect of the fore going resolution will bo that for tho future tho entire business of the association will bo carried on in Wellington, and not loft to tho animal meeting of delegates held at each Now Zealand champion mooting, as has boon done in tho past. The old by-laws of the association having been found to bo altogether inadequate, a draft of a uew set was read by Mr Goldie, and generally approved. It was decided that copies of”these rules bo sent to every association affiliated, and that they bo brought up for adoption at a meeting to bo hold six weeks hence. Tho affiliation of the Hawke’s Bay Association was confirmed. Its clubs in elude those of Napier, Hastings and VTnvnrvwa. It wns mentioned that the next New Zealand championship meeting would be hold at Napier. Tho meeting terminated with votes of thanks to Hr Goldie for his draft of the new by-laws and to Hr F. Uaishley for having acted as secretary sine© Mr Baton’s departure.
