HOCKEY.
Tho hockey matches—senior and junior—on Saturday resulted iu victories for the Wellington teams in each case by one goal to nil. The senior game was marred by the whistle, which was continually blown throughout tho game. The visitors played witb more combination than the local team, who can copy with advantage the excellent-fielding of tho Wellington men. G. Smythe scored the only goal in the first spell. The second half was well contested, and on more than ono occasion Wellington was on the defensive, but tho "shooting’-’ of tho Manawatu' players failed to find tho desired goal. Mr Rush acted as referee. In the junior match Manawatu attacked vigorously in the first spell, but tho sound defence of the Wellington backs stopped them scoring. In the second spell the Wellington men were decidedly aggressive, and after some good rushes succeeded in shooting a good goal. _ Another goal shot by Wellington wag disallowed by the referee, on the ground that the player had one foot outside the circle when shooting the goad. For the losers Waldegravo -and Black played well. A match was played on Saturday between the Craven Girls’ College Club and the Kiwi Club (Wellington). Tho former won by "sis goals to three. Misses Dalrymple (2), Fitzlierbert (2), Pryceand Abraham scored for the winners. Air Hjorring refereed. ■. PRESS ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH, July 5.
