BAND MUSIC.

Mr Chas. Simmonds writes:—lt must bo a pleasure to-know that the majority of the people of this city are very tend of music, and whenever there is anything special to ho hoard they flock in crowds to hear , it. . Our city grandmothers have, out of their enlightened minds, caused to bo erected a baud rotunda, surrounded with an enclosed plot of ground for flowers, etc., but, with their usual conception, they have b’uilt this directly opposite the new fire brigade station, and also in close proximity to the railway lino, and it will very probably bo the scene of a sad loss of life, through the fire brigade rushing out to perform their duty when a great crowd of people is there to hear a baud play or a speech from some particular person, or a send-off, as we have seen in the past. Besides, notice the confined and divided space for a mass of people to stand in its bleak, dangerous and unpicturesquo position. I would suggest that this stand ho removed to, or another erected on, that largo open space, situated at the eastern end of Coflrtenay Place, and opposite the City Hotel, where there is room for thousands of people to congregate free from •banger. "With the two reserves adjoining, and a pleasant view of a. great, paid of the waters of the hai'bour; and as the Council has decided to impose an addition of onethird more money in rates on the people than formerly, which will cause an increase of more rent per week, to cheer the people I think wo .Reserve more music.
