The following recommendations of the committee we.ro adopted:—‘That tb.a resignations ot Nurses Griffiths and .Jackson be accepted with regret ; that s“nior Xinlrvine lie appointed Si.ter on probation; that Nurses Purcell and Beattie ho promoted to the senior nursing staff, and that. Probationers Edwards and .HuddleUone be placed on tiie junior nursing stuff; that tlm engineer be instructed to see that the contractor keep; t lie - hospital roads in better repair; that two deposits which mature shortly at call." The last item includes £IOOO in baud for tlio Nurses’ Home, and £OOOO for the Chronic Invalids’ Home. Tbo expenditure for tlio year totalled £21.502 14s 3d. ' The following wore tbo chief items:—Rations ."..ml provisions. £3BOO 10s Id; wines, spirits, etc., £174 4s Od ; surgery and dispensary, £1274 Is 5d : fuel ami light, £1175 0s Id ; bedding and clothing, £5Ol 17s i)d ; furniture and earthenware, £lO4 J2s lid; washing anil latundry, £530 10s; salaries and wages, £4484 os 8d : water supply, £127 • 3s 3d; general, £23 13s; repairs £7OO 11s 0d; new buildings, £2439 18s 9d; additions to buildings, £1339 2s; purchase of land for extension e premises, £2946 17s 6d ; printing, advertising, etc., £llß Us 7d; interest, £353 13s '3d: insurance, £96 18s 3d: expenses net otherwise specified, £llsl I2s 7d. Altogether 2200 patients were under treatment during the year. The admissions numbered 21)99. and those discharged 1904. There were 101 patients in the hospital on, the 31st, cf March, 1902, as ■ against 197 at the close of the year under review. Of the persons under treatment during tlio year 1352 were * males and 90S females. One hundred and fifty-nine deaths occurred. Outdoor patients numbered 2804. and attendances made 14,040. It is interesting to note that tbo daily average cost per patient is sot down at 4s 4Jd. . In a discussion which followed, it was . mentioned that tbo deaths last year numbered 122 as against 159 for the period just closed. A statement prepared by the secretary showed that of the total number of patients under treatment during thd twelve months 1630 resided in Wellington city, and 220 in the suburbs. Tlio

Kirk said the returns did not support the statement so often made that tho Otaki patients came down to Wellington. Ho mentioned that 90 patients had been treated at tho Otaki institution last year. Accounts for the month amounting to £127 10s Id were passed for payment.
