THE VETERANS’ HOME.

DESIGN FOR THE RROPOSED BUILDING. Air Coleridge, architect, has completed tho plans lor the proposed A cterans’ Heme, and will shortly call for lenders fur its erection. Tho building will bo a handsome one of bnck, with stone facings, and will be erected in a commanding situation on ‘ rising ground. The site is near Onehunga. Thu Homo will have two wings, each 12ISIt deep by 40ft wide, and a frontage of 12Sft, Tho main entrance, tho middle of the frontage, is to be 13ft wide. On the right is a smoking-room 30fc by 25ft, aud ou tho left a room which will fce used for visitors. Beyond that again, at the is a large dining-room 25ft by 35ft. In tho left wing, behind the dining-room, are tlie kitchen, pantry and other conveniences.

A passage loads out of the entrance hall to the dining-room and a back passage to the other rooms in that wing. Tho right wing is taken up mainly by four sets of apartments, sitting-room aud bedroom in each, for tho accommodation of married couples. Each of these apartmeuts opens by French casement windows on to the 10ft verandah which runs right round tho block. On tho inside of the right wing, opening on to tho verandah which overlooks tho courtyard are dormitories for tho accommodation of four .single men each. Bath-rooms, and lavatories are provided for in tho back of this wing. A six-feot wide staircase leads from tho entrance hall to tho top floor. From a largo corridor running transversely, four dormitories, each 18ft by 22ft, face tho front cf the building, each opening by casement windows on to the balcony which runs round tho block.

At the left end cf tho building is the hospital, 30ft by 28ft. Provision is made on this floor for tho accommodation of tho necessary attendants at the Homo. The corridor also opens at tho right end on to the balcony. The wings of tho building contain only one floor, but should future enlargement be necessary it will bo possible in this direction. Tho courtyard at the back will be of concrete. On tho whole, tho building will bo handsome, commodious aud convenient.
