LITERARY GOSSIP.

Lord Wolsoley has written four articles, for the “Pall Mall_ Magazine, under tho title of "The I oung Napoleon, tho Genesis of a Great Career.” The first of these Napoleonic studios will he published in tho January, number.

Dr P. W. Joyce lias in the press m Dublin a work entitled “A Social History of Ancient Ireland,” the aim cl which is to picture society, in- all its phases, as it existed in Ireland before tho Anglo-Norman invasion. _ It will treat of tho Government, ipilitary system and law; religion learning and arc ; trades, industries and commerce; manners, customs and domestic life of the ancient Irish people. It will appear in tiro volumes, with numerous illustrations, and will ho published early next year by Messrs Longmans, Green and Co.

Mr Percy W. Bunting, editor of tho “Coutemxiorary Review,” has undertaken for the present the editorship of the “Methodist Times,” left vacant oy the death of Mr Hugh Price Hughes.

Messrs Greening and 'Co. will publish shortly a new novel by “'A Member of Paget’s Horse,” entitled “The Life Impossible.”

“Tho Bookman” says Mr Jerome E. Jcrcma has again decided to winter abroad, and that this year ho has gone to Switzerland. “Tho English Mon of Letters” series, published by Macmillan and Co.. Ltd., is to include “Fanny Burney,” by Mr Austin Dobson: “Jeremy Taylor,” by Mr Edmund Gosse: and “Sydney Smith,” by Mr G. W. E. Russell, originally undertaken but afterwards abandoned by Mr Birrell.
