MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

MONDAY, DECEMBER 1. (Before Dr A. McArthur, S.M.) Nino first-offenders, charged with drunkenness, were convicted. Egbert Currie was convicted and discharged. Jeremiah Leahy was given an opportunity of going to sea. Michael E told, a seaman on board tbo sliip Machrihanish, pleaded guilty to having assaulted Owen James Evans, the second oUlcer of the vessel, on the 2Gth November, at Wellington. Tho informant deposed that the defendant wenti on board tho vessel, and asked for the captain. When ho was told the captain was away ho assail Red. witness. A sentence of ono month's imprisonment was imposed. Norman Reginald Smith, twelve years of ago, was charged with having stolen two watches, valued at £7 10s, tho property of Harry Smith, on tho 24th November. The case was adjourned until next Friday. Two young men. named John ..oulfo and "William J- Wade, pleaded guilty to charges of having boon drunk, of hav. inn- resisted a constable while in the execution of his duty, and of having used obscene language in Harbour street on 29th November. Fines of os, or fortyeight hours 7 imprisonment, wore imposed on the first charge, and 40s, or seven days’, on each of the other charges. For having failed to provide fer tho maintenance of his wife, Henry W. Pearce was ordered to pay 15s per week. I A separation order was granted against James Gillespio Waddell, with custody of children and 20s a week maintenance. For having disobeyed an order of tho Court for tho .support of his wife (arrears ;CS 4s), Noon Assad Noon was ordered to pay the amount forthwith, in default ono month’s imprisonment.
