THE ELINGAMITE.
THE INQUIRY INTO THE WRECK;;. PRESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, November 27. At the Elingamite inquiry commencing to-morrow, evidence will bo given by about forty witnesses, including a large number of passengers. The inquiry wall probably extend over nearly two weeks. The Collector of Customs, in his application for an inquiry, states that tho Elingamite loft Sydney on sth November with 58 crew, 136 passengers, and about a thousand tons of cargo. Her draught of water on leaving Sydnby was 15ft 3in forward and 17ft lOin aft. On 9th November, about 10.45 a.m.J tho weather being a tliick fog, wind moderate from westward, sea moderate, course east-north-east by the compass, and the vessel steaming at about 45knots, she struck one of the roclcy islets of the Three Kings and foundered m about twenty minutes, resulting in tho loss of some 43 lives or more, the vessel, and tho cargo.
