The chairman stated that tho money collected scorned a small amount for a large and prosperous-city like Weliington. Tho funds had boon collected, uilli flight exception, from the pockets of the artisan class. For such a praiseworthy object, this was to bo regretted, l*>t seeing there was such opposition on the part of a section of tho community, which should havo shown more Christian charity, tho result was a good answer to that class of people who said that the artisan class believed in tho good works of their Master, and believed in trying to tho best of theirability to relievo tho sufferings of the poor. Tho efforts of tho ladies ami gentlemen connected with the movement were of a very praiseworthy character. 'Che secretary had a great deal of work to do in attending to tho business of the Hospital Sunday movement, and he wn« entitled to the very best thanks of the committee and tho public gonorn'ly. Mr McLean said there was a largo number of bad coins collected for the’fund, ami he had them converted into a silver cross, which he proposed to present to a gentleman of tho commuter* as a memento of Hospital Sunday. Mr Richardson stated that 485 collecting lists had been sent out, and only fifty-six hud been returned. Mrs Seftou Moorhonso seconded tho motion, and it was carried unanimously. Accounts amounting to £2 7s were passed for payment. On tho motion of Mrs Gear**,, seconded- by Mrs Dickie, it. was derided in pay tho money collected on Hospital Sunday to Mesdames Jacob Joseph and Newman, trustees of tho Convalescent Homo. Tho appointment of a lady to act as ono of tho trustees of tho Convalescent Homo was left to tho bandsmen. A discussion arose as to what should bo done with collecting-boxes, etc. Tho chairman mentioned that possibly arrangements could be made to store tho articles at tho Opera House free of charge, and suggested that- a religious service bo bold at the Opera Houso at tho conclusion of tho day’s proceedings next year. If ministers could not bo converted to favour tho Hospital Sunday movement by next year, an attractive speaker may be induced to give an address on an attractive subject. On the motion of Mr “Wilson, seconded by Mr Richardson, it was decided to bold £ui annual demonstration in November.
