In this class Maiubooni (F. S. Cooper, Hawera). by King Cole— Masthead, was a particularly fine mare, ami was wcdl placed from (ho seven others. Tho champion female was a two-year-old filly Syringa, by Sfc. Cyr— Tamora, tho property of a local breeder, Mr J. Goodaon. This was a first-class inure and a worthy representative of old Tamara. Loth tho geldings shown wore good animals, 11. V. Lest < Normauby) securing tho first honour. Tho carnage and hackney classe-i wore particularly good, some of tho placed horses being useful animals of an excellent stamp. In the hackney brooding maro class the first and second animals (Ja.s. Davidson and tho Mooro- tin liter Estate being the exhibitors) were fine animals, and the first horse in tho two-ycar-old filly or gelding class, A. Alexander's ftychcm, showed beautiful action, ami well deserved his place from four others. A good gelling of the same breeder was placed first from fivo others in the. yearling cius.s. Tho draught .stock exhibited was, ns is usual at Hawera, of a high standard. The stallions will bo judged to-morrow, but of those competing to-day the quality was very good. James Grant received tho championship ticket in the female classes with Flora 11. and first iu the yearling filly class. A. A. Fauthivm, who secured tho second in tho first-class, gained tho first prize in the throe-year Tho two-year class was vron by IV. 11. Koid fManaia). P. A. Dreamier had tho only entries in tho gelding and colt classes. A. Alexander won the pairs, X' 1 . Day tho golding, and Vv’m. Ihiris tho dry maro class.

Tho cattle exhibited wore a fairly representative lot. Tlie shorthorns were an excellent collection, nml the judg? considered he had never handled a better typo of the breed than the champion bull, Tho champion cow was also a very fine shorthorn. A. A. Fanthnm, the Iccal .brooder, exhibited the former, securing in all four firsts, and ,T, IT. Sellers (Okaiawa) the hitter. The only exhibitora to got a first ticket woro .Bradford and Dalton (Whakamaru), with a yearling bull, and J. "Winks (Normauby), a three-year bull. Death (Hawera) divided tho honours. Tho fat cattle were also very good, particularly tho freezing bullocks. The single bullock (A. A. Fantham) was a snlendid stamp of animal. Tho cows, on tho other hand, wore only fair. The Moore-Huntor estate secured the first honour in freezers. COMPETITIONS. The jumping competitions to-day were very fair. Tho hunter competition was won by P. Wottou's Yeast, with Geo. E. Piper’s Brunswick second, and i). P. Syme’s Kupara third, i Twelve competed. Two pony leaping competitions took place, both being won by A. Mitchell's Czarina. L. S. BnrraclougU won tho driving competition, DAIRY PRODUCE. Ono of the features of tho show is tho excellent competition it annually secures in factory butter and cheese classes induced by tho handsome prizes offered for tho cheese competition. Messrs Lovell and Christmas's JJSO Cup, with a cash prize given by that firm of ten guineas to tho maker, and a second prizo of <£s, is the attraction. In the butter class the inducement to competitors is a .£2O trophy presented by the Egmont Association, with -£l2 to tho actual maker, and a second prize of £3. There are other competitions for smaller money prizes. In each of tho above classes the cup has to be won three times before becoming tho actual property of a competitor. Tho result of tho present cheese contest is that the handsomo cup presented by the big London firm becomes the property of the Ngairo Co-operativo Dairy Company (Taranaki), that concern having won thed cup three times, the former being in IS9B and IS9O. Last year it was won by a Banks Peninsula factory, tho Barry’s Bay Company. In the competition for butter the IlmTeyvillD Cooperative Dairy-Company (Tarannki) secures tho trophy fer tho first time.
