FIJI.
CLAIMS OF NEW ZEALAND AND AUSTRALIA. MELBOURNE, November 25. The "Age” says that one of S'r Edmund Barton’s minor successes when in England was Iho barrier ho presented to the annexation ambitions of Mr Seddon in respect, to Fiji. When he mot Lord Onslow and Mr Seddon a.t the Imperial Conference, ho told the Colonial Under-Secretary that though Australia was not reaching out for Fiji at present, sho coidd not consent to its annexation to New Zealand. Sir Edmund Barton is acquainted with the political designs of Mr Berkeley and the character of the petition to the King to bo taken to England. Ho is certain tiiat tho Imperial authorities will not alter tho present system of government to any material extent for some timo to come. Some day, however, tho Fijian Constitution will have to bo remodelled, and Australia will then have to make her influence felt.
