SETTLEMENT OF BOER FAMILIES. LONDON. August 14. Loading men on the Rand have secured options over the 1\ itwatersrand extension, on which gold has been found thirty miles eastward. It is reported that Mr Deity., formerly Secretary of State m the Transvaal, is going to Paris to negotiate for the settlement of Doer families in Madagascar. Lack of transport is hampering the re-settlement of floor families on their and some are returning to the towns. Agents are trying to persuade discontents to emigrate to German territory and to Madagascar. Farmers complain that a syndicate of burghers is buying horses and mules at the military sales, and reselling them at from £5 to £lO profit. NEW ZEALANDERS BOUND FOR ENGLAND. LONDON, August 14. Lieutenants F. “Willis, Weir, AlcKillop, Lowrie, Moss Davis, Grace, Sur-geon-Major Milne-Thompson, SurgeonCaptain MeLachlan, Veterinary-Captain Neale and forty-seven New Zealanders have left the Capo for England. •PRESENTATION TO-MRS BADENPOWELL. LONDON. August 14. Air Scddon presented General BadcnPowell’s mother, at the General’s request, with a magnificent solid gold salver subscribed for by the public service of New Zealand in recognition of his defence of Mafoking. In making the presentation, Mr Seddon eulogised the General, and expressed himself confident that ho would be able to preserve law and order in South Africa. Mrs and Miss Scddon wore present. Mrs Baden-Pow’cll expressed her wannest thanks for, and admiration of, the gift. HARBOUR IMPROVEMENTS AT DELAGOA BAY. (Received August 15, 10.56 p.m.) LONDON, August 15. The Johannesburg correspondent of the “ Morning Post ” says there is a strong rumour that, as a result of Lord Milner’s visit to Dolagoa Bay, Britain has arranged to build a new harbour at Dolagoa, repayment of the cost being guaranteed by the receipts from Customs and railways.
