According to a letter received by a gentleman in Wellington, the barquene Sir Henry (95 tons) appears to have encountered tue full force of the heavy gale that was prevailing on the New Zealand coast at the "id of last week. The letter seems to have been written bv lim skipper of the vessel (Captain Bounor) while sheltering at Guards Bay, and handed to a member of the crew of a steamer that had also put in for shelter. The letter states that the Sir Henry left Lyttelton on. Friday, .the Bth in.st., in ballast for Kaipara. Light winds were experienced until 8 o’clock on the following morning, when an unusually strong gale sprang up from south-sonth-west. The vessel kept on her course until arrivin off. Capo Campbell, where she hove-to. Later on, when oft Terawhiti, a heavy sea broke aboard, carrying away with it one of tho crew of the vessel. Life-buoys wore immediately thrown overboard to the unfortunate seaman, but he failed to giasp them. The letter also stares that the rigging of the Sir Henry was considerably damaged, and several members of the crew had received slight inpirics.
