Tho following applications for licenses wore granted:—Kilbinio Hotel, Wm. Alilno Halley; Empire, Petone, Joseph B. Hooper; and Railway, Lower Hutt, Jas. Clulow. Renewals' were granted as follows: Ngabauranga Hotel, Thomas Wm. Clapham; Park, Newtown, Frank Smith; Central, Petone, Wm. John Williams: Island Bay, Frederick Kohler; Grand National, Petone, Alfred George Saunders ; Victoria, Petone, A. A. Gray; Newtown, Patrick William Corby; All Nations, Kaiwarra, Francis Joseph McGovern. In reference to tho application by Thomas' Furzo for the renewal of the license of the White Horse Hotel, Ngahauranga, Mr Young, who appeared for tho applicant, stated that the work of building the new house would' be proceeded with at once. He called Air E. C. Farr, architect, who produced tho plans for this building. Mr Herdman. on behalf of Mr Futter, said that the latter agreed with what was proposed. In reply to tho Bench, Air Farr stated that the building was to be finished by tho 4th October. Tho application was granted. Air Skerrett appeared for Airs Ellen Prictor, who applied for a renewal of the license of tho Esplanade Hotel. The police report was that tho hotel required painting and papering, and that a chain ladder was required for one of tho fire escapes. Air Skerrett stated that the fire escapes were in hand, and would have been completed ere now but for the illness of the carpenter. .The hotel, it was admitted, required painting inside and papering, and this would bo done. The , application was granted. On tho application of Air Skerrett, an extension of time till 11 o'clock in the caso of the Park Hotel, Newtown, was granted. Tho hours of the Newtown; Hotel were also extended till 11 o’clock. Air Young asked for an extension of hours till 11 o’clock for the Kilbirnie Hotel, but this was declined. Air Skerrett applied' that the hours of the Railway Hotel, Lower Hutt, should bo extended till 11 o’clock. Ho stated that the licensee had gone to a good deal of expense, and he I found it extremely inconvenient, upon closing his house at 10, to be knocked up to attend to the wants of travellers arriving by the late trains. Inspector Ellison, representing the police, objected to this application. The other hotels in the borough were in another licensing district, and had to be closed at 10. The committee declined the application. An application for a wholesale license was received from Ernest Alfred Schultz. Riddiford street, Newtown. Air Haselden said ho had seen a bottle of whisky in the window of a wholesale license establishment marked for ss. _As he was at present advised, his opinion was decidedly against snch wholesale licenses. Ho did not speak of this particular application, but there was no doubt that under these wholesale licenses attempts would bo made to evade the law. Air Schultz said that his license had expired, as he had removed from one district to another. Tho application was adjourned till the afternoon. The application for the license for tho Coronation Hotel camo before the committee at 2 o’clock, after the luncheon adjournment. An unexpected deadlock arose, two members of the committee leaving the bench. This loft the committee without a quorum, and the meeting had to be adjourned. Owing to this "fact, neither the application for the wholesale license, nor that for a license for the Rainbow Hotel at Kaiwarra, could bo heard. The committee is to meet again on Wednesday next, at 10 o’clock. The discussion in regard to tho Coronation Hotel is reported elsewhere.
