CONGREGATIONALISM.
JUBILEE SERVICES AT THE TERRACE CHURCH. The Diamond Jubilee of the Congregational Church, Wellington ten-ace, was celebrated by means of special sendees yesterday. The church was very prettily decorated for the occasion, the walls being covered with nikau palms, and the pillars and pulpit with coloured draperies and flowers, whilst festoons of evergreens and flowers depended from the ceilings. The •services were choral, and the hymns and anthems sung were appropriate to the occasion. The preacher in the morning was Rev J. Reed Glassou. the pastor of the church, who preached an eloquent and powerful sermon on “The Church’s One Foundation.” . A service for the young, held in the afternoon, was largely attended, both by children and adults. This service was conducted by the Rev IV. Newman Hall. Tho preacher in the evening was Rev B. L. Thomas, who made special reference to the fact that it was sixty years since the Congregationalists had establisfled themselves in Wellington. Tho preacher spoke with enthusiasm of the strides which the Christian churches had made, were making, and would, by tho providence of God, continue to make in the years to come. He declared that the highest water-mark of human advancement had been attained through the influence of the Christian churches, and that even education itself was not comparable to tho influence of religion as a regenerating factor. He spoke in glowing terms of the progress which the Congrugatioual Church bad made in Wellington during the last sixty years; of the unity whjch prevailed amongst its adherents; of the faithfulness with which the Gospel was being preached by its pastor ; and he concluded by making an earnest exhortation to the congregation to put forth great efforts on be-, half of their church and in the advancement of Christianity in tho days- to come.
