ENTERTAINMENTS.

DIX’S GAIETY COMPANY, With such a strong combination of talent as the present company at the Theatre Royal possesses, it was only to be expected that there would be a largo audience last night. Every seat was occupied. To-night Miss Silvini, Mr Sivronl and Charles Melton will make their last appearance in Wellington. There will also be a complete change of programme. Several fresh artists are billed for Monday night. . “OUR NAYY.” At the Opera House to-night the splendid entertainment “Our Navy,” under the direction of Mr Charles MaoMahon, will be given in Wellington for the first time. The glowing reports as to the' excellence of the programme are many and varied. The “handy man” has always been popular, and his brilliant deeds on sea and land have stirred the whole world with admiration. The life of “Jack” will be shown to-night from his. entry into the service until ho is carried to his last resting place. The mammoth battleships, the torpedo fleet and the torpedo-destroyers will also be shown in action. The scenes will be introduced by Mr L. B. Butler, the electric effects will be under the direction of Mr Herbert Wyndham, the mechanical effects by Mr J. Earle and assistants, and the orchestra will be under the leadership of Mr Harry Rushworth. “Our Navy” has just concludeda successful tour of the North Island. At the Missions to Seamen Institute last evening, Mr Moore gave an interesting “chat” on “first aid.” Mr Kerr provided the rausio, and was assisted by Misses Hargood, Kerr (2), Claxton and Lusty, and Messrs Leece, Chapman, McCornish and Hood. Tho first of Miss Johnston’s series of concerts will be held in the Exchange Hall on Friday next. An attractive programme has been arranged. Miss Paul, pianist, who comes from New South Wales with excellent credentials, will make her first appearance in Wellington on that occasion. St. Hill’s “Sporting Life Company,” consisting of six .vaudeville artists and the Imperial Biograph, leaves to-day by the Wainui for the West Coast.
