ENTERTAINMENTS.

DIX’S GAIETY COMPANY. The entertainment provided at the Theatre Royal this week is an exceptionally good one. The theatre last night was crowded, and encores were frequent. Mr Albert Athas and Miss Lizzie Collins, in their joint song and dance items, were a feature of the performance. Miss Belle Ray and Mr Wallace King were both in capital voice, and each had to respond to no fewer than three encores- “The Drama,” as enacted by Mr James Harvey, is well worth seeing; as also are the turns of theLingards and Sivronis. The present company is a very strong . one. and should prove a draw for some time. The last four nights of Mr Athas and Miss Collins are announced. This clever couple leave New Zealand on Saturday week for America.

ST. MARY’S CONVENT PUPILS. A feature of the concert to be given on Friday evening by the pupils of St. Mary’s Convent will be the singing of Miss Kate Connell. Miss Connell will contribute two solos, and will take part in a duet with Miss Skerrett and a trio with Misses Oliver and .White. The concert will take place at Sydney street Schoolroom.

St. Hill’s Sporting Life Company will give an entertainment at Petone tonight. A bazaar in aid of St. John’s parsonage fund will be held at the Oddfellows’ Hall at Johnsonville this afternoon and evening. A practice of the Wellington Ladies’ Musical Union will be held at the Oddfellows’ Hall,* Lambton quay, at 7.30 o’clock this evening.

Private Head, who is a member of the New Zealand Bisley team, will be entertained this evening by his comrades of the Highland Rifles at a “social” at Godber’s Rooms. At Mount View Asylum last evening, Miss Mabel Bannister entertained the inmates on tho occasion of the usual fortnightly concert. Miss Bannister sang a solo and afterwards recited “An Order for a Picture,” both items being much appreciated.. The entertainment arranged by the Poneke Football Club, for which an excellent programme has been prepared, takes place to-night at the Exchange Hall.
