FINANCE AND TRADE.

Tho Customs returns for the past week amounted to £7851 18s 8d; the beer duty for the same period totalling £202 19s 9d. Saturday’s returns amounted to £933 4s lOd. COMMERCIAL CABLES. PRESS ASSOCIATION. LONDON, April 11. BANK OF ENGLAND RETURN. Tho Bank of England return issued for the week ending Wednesday, 9th April, is as under : Issue Department.

GOVERNMENT SECURITIES. The following are the latest quotations for Government securities and a comparison with those ruling last week:

COLONIAL AND OTHER PRODUCE,

Wheat.—Tho English markets are firm, owing to rumours of tho imposition of a duty. Heavy arrivals are depressing tho Continental markets. There is a better inquiry for cargoes. Sydney steamer shipments (February), 29s lOld per quarter.

Sugar.—German beet, 88deg, is Id lower at 6s 5d per cwt.; first-mark, granulated, f.o.b Hamburg, unchanged at 8s por cwt. Bradford Tops.— The market is animated. Common CD’s, 20d per lb: super 60’s, 21id per lb. Rabbits are dull at 7£d to Bd. PRICES OF METALS.

Tin, spot, £125 per ton; three months. £123 17s 6d per ton. Pig Iron.—Glasgow warrants, No. 1 cash, 4d higher at 53s 5d per ton f.o.b. in Clyde. •
