Per-*' haps the most interesting game during! the afternoon was that between Wolling-4 ton and Melrose. Wellington placed asplendid back team on the field, but ifcj was without the services of one or two prominent forwards. Alter a hardfought game, Melrose won by 16 to 4. Ponek’e indulged in a game with Oldi Boys. Play was confined to the forwards, who put in some very effective! • work. Poneke won by 6to 5. Orientals had a practice with twenty Poneke; juniors, the scores at the conclusion of the came reading—Orientals 11,' Poneke; 5. Meftibers of the Athletic team practised amongst themselves. Judging by the enthusiasm with which! Association players entered into practice at the Miramar grounds on Satur-j day there seems every probability that.' the incoming season will show a decided; advance in the style of play. . With view of encouraging junior players, and, at the same time ascertaining fie merits of new players, the Diamonds, Swifts,; St. John’s and Marist Brothers’ teams practised, amongst their own members. Eovers and Queen's Park entered into friendly combat, and after a hard fought game. Rovers wou by 2to 1. Goodbert and Williams scored for Eovers, and Perkins for Queen’s Park.
