WOODVILLE.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) Wednesday, 7 p.m.

A deputation of - business people waited on Mr J. O’Meara, M.H.8., yesterday afternoon for tho purpose of laying before him several matters requiring immediate attention, as affecting the welfare of the district. Mr Grant occupied the chair. The first question dealt with was in connection with tho local post office. Mr O’Meara explained that he had wired tho Postmaster-General about a fortnight ago, urging the necessity for at once having a new post office erected at Woodville, but had had no reply. In his opinion the present building was a disgrace to any town. It was in an insanitary state and overcrowded, owing to tho number of officials required. A sum of money had been placed on the estimates, but no move had been made to spend, it. It was resolved, “That this/neeting urge upon the member for the district the necessity for impressing on the Postmaster-General tho importance of at once erecting a suitable building for postal work in the town.” The Ballance Gorge bridge was the next matter dealth with, and in reply to inquiries as to what was being done in the matter, Mr O’Meara stated that he had interviewed the Premier, tho Minister of Lands and Mr Hursthouse. He had finally recommended that Mr Fulton should prepare the plans and specifications for this work. This had been agreed to. It was decided to write to tho Minister of Lands, asking him to hasten. the matter, as. settlers were denied any proper outlet from Hall Settlement. . -
