press association. INVERCARGILL, March 12. The Invercargill Cycling Club championship meeting was held to-day. The presence of Martin and other noted riders to contest for tlx© Enfield Cup and Suthej> land’s proposed attack on tho mile record drew a larger crowd than usual. l b ® latter fixture did not come off, the tandem motor refusing to "gee." Results: Two-mile Wheel Race.—H. Holland, 120 yds. 1; M. Summers, 215yds, 2; W. Anderson, 175yds, 3. Time, 4min 43sec. For the first heat of the mile championship Martin, Palmer and A. Ralston turned out, and finished in that order m 2min 29sec. The second heat was won by Sutherland, with R. Connell and Husten in the places. Time. 2mm Msec. Final —Martin, 1; Sutherland, 2; Palmer. 3. Time. 2min 17sec. Fifteen yards from home Sutherland led,, but Martin, with mighty effort, got across the line first. Halfmile Handicap.—Murie, 40yds. 1; Hunter, 2; Dowling, 3. Time. Imin 3sec. Half-mile Championship—Palmer, 1; Sutherland, 2; Connell, 3. Time, Imin,
13sec. Martin was caught napjnng for once, and in the run for home got blocked. Five-miles Championship—Martin, X; Palmer, 2: R. Connell, 3. Time 11mm 55sec. Murie dropped out at a mile, A. Ealston at four, and a lap later Sutherland retired. Martin won easily. . Three-mile Championship.—Martin, I; Palmer, 2; Ealston, 3. Time, 7min 8 1-5 sec. In the fourth lap Murie fell and broke his collar bone. Martin made a great spurt in the straight. The Enfield Cup contest was exciting. Ealston, Sutherland and Connell were the only starters, and without variation kept that order throughout till a few yards from home when Sutherland came out and won by about a length from Connell. Time, llmin 57sec.
