FIJI AND NEW ZEALAND.

Special to the “Times.” AUCKLAND, March 11. The “Fiji Times” says:—A, petition under the auspices of a Government contractor has recently been hawked round the town for signature by one oi the firm’s employees. The document, We understand, is addressed to the Secretary of State for the Colonies, and prays that Fiii may not be annexed to New Zealand. It has met with a poor reception. The movement lias evidently been started with the object of thwarting the native petition signed by fifty Fijian chiefs and thousands of Fijians, which has gone forward to the King, requesting that the colony may be federated wita Ujc pjun • otic colony of New Zealand. The Fin Times’’ denounces tho method adopted in (retting signatures as a hole-and-corner method, and recalls the fact that large public meetings iu Suva and Levuka in the fall of 1909, presided over by their respective Mayors, unanimously passed resolutions favouring federation with New Zealand.
