MEETINGS.
A meeting of the Society for the Protec tfon of Women and Children was held in the Now Zealand Alliance Rooms yesterday. Present—Mesdames 13. Allen (in the chair), Kirkcaldie, W. A. Waters, Findlay, Darvall, Sister Emily and Adjutant Spar, go."" A number of cases were reported, and some general business transacted. Ac. counts amounting to .£5 9s 9d were passed for payment. A meeting of the Wellington Benevolent Trustees was held yesterday. Present — The Rev J. K. Elliott (chairman), Messrs B Robertson, H. Cook, R. Mothes, (i. Webb and A. Sample. A number of applications for relief , were dealt with, and some ordinary business transacted. The number of females in the Home was reported as 16, and males 45, making a total of Gl.
At a meeting of the Presentation Com. mUtee connected -with the reception of the Puke and Duchess of York, held at the Council Chambers yesterday, it was decided to devote n surplus of £l7 5s to the Hos_ pital Trustees for the erection of a cot in the children's ward at the Hospital. It wag also suggested that the cot be called the "Princess May-’' A vote of thanks to the chairman (Mr X G- W. Aitken), the secretary, treasurer and president, concluded the meeting. At a meeting of the Wellington Saddlers’ Union held last night, ft was decided to recommend Mr A. H. Cooper to bo ap. pointed to the Arbitration Court by the Government. The resignation of the union’s secretary (Mr J. Bodgers) was receiver! with regret and Mr James Walsh was elected to the vacant position. A general meeting of the Wellington Poultry, Pigeon and Canary Society will be held this evening to consider a proposed amendment of the rules. Conference matter will be discussed at a meeting of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants this evening. The Masonic Lodge Hinemoa. No. 122, will be consecrated to.morrow evening. A special meeting of the Amalgamated Society of Cooks and Waiters will bo held at the 'Trades Hall this evening. At the Yorkshire Society’s monthly meeting this evening, a notice of motion will be brought up for discussion, to alter the rule with regard to the eligibility of members so as to considerably widen the scope of the society, one of the alterations proposed being in the direction of allowing a residential qualification. Mr Helliwnll will (five his usual monthly budget of York, shire news, and a musical programme has been arranged.
