The Customs returns for yesterday amounted to £IOOB Is 9d. Messrs Freeman B. Jackson and Co., in conjunction with Afessrg Abraham aud Williams, report as to their Johnsonville sale as follow’s: —Wo had an average yarding of cattle td-day, the quality being good throughout. Heavyweight cattle wore a trifle easier, but mediimv'.veight bullocks fully maintained last week’s prices. In sheep we had a good entry. The demand was slightly easier than last week. Some of the sheep sent us as fats were only forward stores. The few lambs and pigs entered sold well. Prime heavy bullocks, £9 10s to £lO 2s Gd ; medium weight do., £8 10s to £D os; small do., £7 15s to £8 ss; prime wethers, 15s 10d; extra prime owes, 17s to 17s Id ; prime ewes, 16s 3d; good ewes, 13s 3d to 14s 9d; shorn wethers, poor, 10s; shorn ewes, 10s 7d; store ewes, 7s to 7s lid; lambs, 10s 7d; porkers, good, 32s Gd. The following cable has been received from the Agent-General, dated London, 11th instant:—“There has been no alteration in the mutton market since last week. Damaged carcases of mutton having been put on the ’market have hurt prices. There has been no alteration in the lamb market since la§t week. There is a dull sale for all lamb. There is a better demand for beef—New Zealand hinds 4d, fores 2|d. The butter market is steady; Australian, 112 s. No alteration in the cheese market, since last week. Hemp market is quiet; high prices restricting business. There are light stocks of hemp on hand. There is a disposition to sell distant hemp; New Zealand, ‘good fair Wellington,’ spot, £33: February-April shipment, £3l; stock, 169 tons against 1967 tons last year.”
