(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) Thursday, 7-50 p.m. Settlors on the East Coast are complaining of the dryness of the present season. Practically no rain has fallen for two months, and .the country- is parched and dry. The crops arc suffering considerably. Beetham won tho ladies’ championship of three rounds of nine holes, her score being 177. A quiet’ wedding was celebrated at tho residence of Mr F. Chapman in Mas. terton yesterday, when Mr Harold Bennett, youngest sou of Mr William Bennett. (if t ern Glen, was married to Miss Annie Chapman, daughter ot Mr F. Chapman. Tho ceremony was performed by tho Very Rev Doan McKenna. Misses Maud and Kate Chapman acted as bridesmaids and Mr H. Kummor was host man- ■. : , , , , Mrs James, s-crt., died suddenly at Columba road, Masterton, yesterday af-' ternoon. The deceased, who was fiftyfive years of age, and wife of Mr Henry James, of Wangaohu. had been suffering from internal cancer for a considerable time. She passed away whilst undergo, ing an operation at tho hands of four doctors. Tho deceased lady, who was highly respected, leaves a large famiyl. Her remains will bo interred in tho Ma=. terton cemetery on Saturday.
