PRESS ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH, October 21. A meeting of th» Council of the League of New Zealand Wheelmen was held toj night. The Premier replied to the league’s application for a grant towardnext year’s championship meeting that he regretted being unable to hold out a hope that any vote would be passed this session. The Auckland centre asked tn. Council’s ruling as to whether cash and amateur riders could compote together in a road race. It was decided to reply that the league has no jurisdiction over road races, only stipulating that its amateurs, in winning such, must accept trophies as prizes. The Waimate Caledonian So ciety wrote saying that it had decided to affiliate with the league, and asked what steps it should take to give effect to its decision. The secretary stated that ho had asked the Caledonian Society to send its application to the South Canterbury centre, but as the latter could not bo induced to hold meetings nothing was done. It was decided to affiliate the Waimate, Oamam and Otago Caledonian Societies forthwith, and to inform tho South Can terbnry Centre that unless its annual meeting was held within a week the headmiarters would be shifted to Oamarn. The secretary was instructed to forward a letter to A. Ralston, the New Zealand representative in tne WarrnamhooLtoMelbourne road race, congratulating him upon his fine performance. It was decided to write to the Wellington Centre explaining the council's action in regard tn the striking off Hie roll of the clubs in that centre. The secrotarv was in rirncted to again write to the New South Wales Cyclists’ Union as to the date and place of this year’s championships.
