AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.

Saturday, 7.40 p.m. Three petitions are being extensively signed in Glen Oroua, Bongotca and Pal, raerston requesting the Government to take over the Greenaway’s estate, Glen. Oroua, and cut it up into farms of fifty and seventy.five acres. The recent successful conversion of the old-established firm of Abraham and •Williams into a limited liability corn, pany was commemorated last evening by a dinner. Advantage was taken of the occasion (o present, the stall of the old firm, retained by the company in its entirety, to the directors recently elect, od. The chair was occupied by Mr R. S. Abraham, and a lengthy toast list wag gone through. At a special meeting of tho College street School Committee last evening a resolution was carried expressing regret at tho loss sustained by the school and by education through tho death of tho late Mr George Grant, late headmaster. The committee felt that tho devotion of Mr Grant to his work hastened his death.
The cup matches instituted by the Cricket Association start on Wednesday. Five senior teams formed in the town are competing, while there is a proba, bility of outside loams playing. During the week over 800 books for the new public library cauno to hand. At tho monthly meeting of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association hold tc-day, Mr J. E. Wilson was appointed delegate to tho mooting to bo held in Wellington of delegates from freezing companies and kindred industries. A letter received from a firm of implement exhibitors protesting ‘ against tho high rates for .space in the -implement section evoked a long discussion, and it was decided that the Firfance Commit, too should go into the whole question of charges. During tho discussion it wag stated that several firms contem, plated reducing their exhibits, but the association has not been approached on the matter except by the firm hero indicated. Owing _to all the permanent stall and dairy implement space being taken, it was decided to erect a 60ft shed. Messrs T. Crosse, Sunderland, W. J. Douglas, G. P. Donnelly and L. McHardy (Hawke’s Bay) were elected life members of the association. The question of providing cover for dogs and poultry wag loft to tho dog and poultry stewards and the Finance Committee to arrange. Several necessary improve* ments to the grounds at a total cost of £IOO were authorised. It was unanimously decided to remove the disquali, fication imposed on Mr A. A, Hagtio,. of Hawera, some years ago. It was resolved to hold a smoke concert on tho secondday of the show instead of the annual dinner and a strong committee was ap. pointed to arrange details.
