ENTERTAINMENTS.
THE SHERIDAN SEASON. “ The Shaughraun,” one of the most popular of Boucicault’s Irish, dramas, demands a strong cast for its successful production, especially as regards the male characters. This condition was fulfilled by the Sheridan Company in the performance of the play which they gave at the Opera House last night. In the name part, Mr John F. Sheridan presented an interpretation which was diverting and interesting. The actor’s make, .up was not the least convincing feature in his impersonation. He was no spick-and-span Conn, but one who really looked fit for midnight poaching and any open-air adventure that might come along. His by. play was inimitable, and he brought out every point in the witty lines put into the mouth of the truehearted scapegrace. Ho had a brogue and a droll humour of expression which could neither of them be excelled. The audience, by frequent laughter and applause, accorded to Mr Sheridan his due reward. Mr F. Wentworth, as Corry Kinchela, and Air Edmund Duggan, as Harvey Duff the informer, both submit, ted excellent character studies. Mr Walter Dalgleish was an impressionable Captain Molineaux, and Mr Frank Crosgloy, as Robert Ffolliot, was forcible when the occasion demanded it- The part of Father Dolan was assumed with dignity by Air Charles Ashley.v Aliss Maud Gwynno appeared as Claire Ffolliot, and Miss Celia Mavis as Arto O’Neale, in each case in a graceful man„ ner. The Moya or Miss Florence Barns was not so satisfactory as could have been wished. Aliss Florrie Faning was Conn’s mother, and in the scene with the Shaughraun in the second act helped Air Sheridan to move the audience to peals of laughter. The numerous set,, tings were good examples of the scenic artist’s skill, and some of them were received with verv warm applause. The revolving Gate Tower scene was effectively managed. The Shaughraun ” will he repeated to..night and to-morrow evening. On Friday “A Trip to Chicago ” will be staged, with Air Sheridan as Johanna Murphy, a companion portrait to the famous \ytdow O’Brien. THEATRE ROYAL.
