A Press Association message from Nelson states that as the cutter Planet, bound for Pelorus Sound, was sailing out of the harbour she was carried inside the Fifeshire Rock and struck on a reef, los_ ing her rudder and sustaining other aani age. She floated off later, and is now in harbour. From Taranaki the Takapuna brought last evening 918 boxes and 277 ke?!s of butter for transhipment to the Karamea. From the West Coast the - Haupiri brought to Wellington last evening, 409 tons -of coal and 50 tons of general cargo. Messrs W. M. Bannatyne and Co,, Ltd., the local agents for the Oceanic Steamship Company, are advised that the Ventura sailed from Auckland at 9.30 on Tuesday evening, in continuation of her trip to Sydney. She carried a large number of intercolonial passengers. On the trip from San Francisco, she was occupied 26 hours in coaling' at Honolulu, having had to shut out coal at the former port in order to make room for 2500 tons of freight for the colonies.

Tho ship Taranaki arrived at Port Chal mets yesterday morning from London, after an exceedingly smart passage of 89 days. ' ■ '

The Mannroa’ arrived yesterday afternoon from Wangami? via Catherine Cove. At the latter place she had her bottom scraped, and also received a cleaning and painting. , - Tomorrow, the Government steamer Hinemon, is expected to leave with stores fnr OopV'Streit lighthouses. She will afterwards make a visit to Northern lighthouses.

NO CAUSE FOB ANXIETY, About a fortnight ago, asteamer called the Orion was telegraphed as having left Sydney for Wellington, and was reported by a well-known shipping agent as being intended for the trade between Wellington. Havelock and the. Sounds. -It will interest shipping people to know that the Orion did not leave Sydney-for Wellington as reported. A cable message was sent to Sydney yesterday with the result that word was received last night through the Tress Association, that the vessel was running in the Launceston-Melboume trade, ' This will allay the anxiety that had been felt as to the vessel’s safety, PAPANUI, AT LONDON. The local office of the New Zealand Shipping Company received advice yes terday that the. passenger steamer Papa, nui. which recently put ipto Vigo, on the coast of Spain, with the cargo in No. 8 hold on fire, has arrived at Plymouth. STEAMERS IN ‘COLLISION. PRESS ASSOCIATION 1 , AUCKLAND, October 2. The steamer Taniwha came into colli, sion with the paddle steamer Fatiki on the Thames river, ten miles from Paeora, last evening. The Taniwha was coming to Auckland, and steaming at the rate of seven knots an hour, when she struck the Patiki—on the starboard bow, , just abaft the rigging. The Patikj began to fill rapidly, and being in shallow water, she Wag ran ashore. Captain Sullivan says that the lights were burning bright ly bn both steamers. He cannot account for the accident.
