The question whether a trade union can be sued in' its registered name was raised in the case of Tall Vale Railway Co. v. the Amalgamated "Society- of Railway Servants and 'others. The society was sued, in conjunction with Mr Richard Bell, the general secretary, and Mr James Holme, the - organising secretary, for things done -by it in connection with the Taff Vale strike. It wu sought to make th® union’s fund* responsible in damages. Mr Justice Farwell found for the railway company, but the Court of Appeal over-ruled his judgment.
