The Customs returns for yesterday amounted to .£024 6s 6d. Messrs Townsend and Paul report the following wholesale selling prices on the Wellington produce market:—Wneat, 3s 2d per bushel; broken, 2s 9d per bu-hol; oats, Sis fid per bushel; seed, 2s 9cl per bushel; barley, 2s 2a per bushel; maize, 3s Id per bushel; pollard, £4 los; uran, £4 10s per ton; ch&3, £o 10s_ per ton; hay, £4 10s per ton: partridge peas, 4s 3d per bushel; Prussian Blue, 4s 9d per bushel ; potatoes, £4 15s to £6 per ton; seed potatoes, £4 10s to £6 per ton; onions. American £l6 10s per ton-; butter, choice lOd to Is per lb. medium Bd,to 9d per lb; bacon, 6jd per lb; hams, 7Jd per lb; fowls, 3s fid to 4s per pair; ducks, Sa to 5a 6d per pair; turkeys, 7s to 12s per pair; geese, os 6d per pair; fresh eggs, 9d; awedcs. 30s per ton; carrots, 40s per ton ; cabbages, 4s to 5s fid per sack; cauliflowers, 4s to 6s per sack; pumpkins, 4s to 5s per sack; marrows, 4s to 4s fid per sack; lettuce, Is to Is 6d per dozen; celery, Is to 2s per dozen; parsnips, 3s to 4s" per sack; rhubarb, 7s to 10s per dozen.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company has received the following cable from its London house dated 26th/instant: —Wool—The sales progress firmly. Since close of last sales, greasy merino super and fine greasy, crossbred are id per lb higher; greasy merino medium and inferior are id to Id per lb higher; scoured merino super and scoured merino medium and inferior are lid per io higher; medium greasy crossbred are par to id per lb higher; fine scoured crossbred are Id per lb higher; .greasy merino lambs, super, are Id to lid per lb higher, and greasy crossored lambs are id. to Id per lb higher. - Tallow—The market has an upward tendency. ' Fine mutton s is worth 31s fid per cwt; good beef, 295. fid per cwt; best mixed, 30s per cwt and edible mutton, 33s 9d per cwt. Wheat- and flour—The market is weak;* and we see no prospect- of an improvement/ - New Zealand wheat average is worth 26s 9d per496lbs; New Zealand long berried 27s 3d per 4961b5. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile . Agency Company, Limited, report as follows on their Palmerston North saleWe had an average yarding ot all classes of stock. The attendance was good, and bidding at times was brisk. There was a good inquiry for yearlings, but female stock-were a little easier, ’ the quality ' not being quite so good ag we have had lately. Beef -was in good demand. A nice pen 1 of fat wethers made 14s 9d. We are holding our spring cattle fair at Palmerston,: on Thursday, 3rd .October; and have already over 1100 head entered. We anticipate a good demand for all classes. We quote:—Sheep—Fat wethers, 14s 9d; hoggets, 8s; 10d to 9s fid; ewes and lambs, 12s 11s. SALES. The New . Zealand. Loan and Mercantile Agency Company. Limited, reports as follqws:—At our fortnightly sale, we offered i a small catalogue; of: sheepskins and wool. There* was-a’ fair attendance of buyers,-and competition was good - for all lots. As reported elsewhere a rise in. merino and fine crossbred has. taken place ’ since* opening’ ot present sales .in London, and this improvement was reflected in prices ■ obtained by us < today. We : quote: —Sheepskins—Merino up to 4fd; 'halfbred, 3jd to 4Jd; full woolled good crossbred, 3d to 3fd; medium -crossbred, ; 2fd to 2}d; Lincoln, 2|d to 3d; broken and’inferior, crossbred, lid. to 2fd per lb. Wool-r Crutch. ings, medium quality, Id to lid; . inferior and-seedy,, id; crossbred fleece, 2id to 3d per lb, Messrs .Levin and Co., Limited; report : —We offered 15 bales of wool and a large catalogue of skins. The wool sold'at rates equal to late realisations, but the, skins met with stronger competition, and all crossbred skins showed an advance of a’farthing; whilst merinos and fine skins' advanced > fully a halfpenny. We quote:—Good crutchings, lid to 2d; Medium do, l|d to lid; merino skins, * 41d to 4Jd; fine crossbred, 3*Jd to 4d; coarse do, 31 d to 3id; dead skins, Ifd to 2fd. , Murray, Roberts and Co, report: We offered 2700 sheepskins snd .40 i: bales of wool. .The wool was mostly crutchings, prices ruling about equal to last sale. We quote:—Wool—Mixed crossbred’, 2id to 3id per io; dead wool, 2fd to 3id per lb; crutchings, Ifd to 2d pe* lb. • Skins—Merinos and: halfbreds, did to 4Jd per lb; crossbreds, medium to good, 3d to 3£d per lb; crossbreds, interior, 2d to 2jd; dead and hoggets, l}d to 2fd; pelts, 3d to'l’d each. AUCKLAND, September 27. , The balance-sheet of the South British Insurance Company for the year ended August 31st shows a credit balance in -the working account of '£33,373 10s sd, after adding £SOOO to reinsurance fund; £20,000 is added to the re serve fund, and the directors recommend payment of a dividend for the second half-year at the rate of 2s fid per share. WAIRARAPA , FARMERS’ COOPERATIVE ASSOCIATION. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) MASTERTON, September 27. The annual meeting of the Wwrarapa Farmers’-' Cooperative Association was held' this afternoon. The chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, commented 'on the fact; that the past year had been.one s ,of prosperity. The Wellington business; which last- year, showed a -loss,, had this year produced a'substantial ..profit. The whole of the branches had shown a considerable increase. It .had..been, proposed to,erect a brick building in Masterton and to undertake the mannfac. ture of ’ furniture on -a .largs scale,', bnt on account of the award of the Conciliation" Board the :propotal had* been abandoned for the present. . Messrs F. Nathan, D. Donald .and, L. Caselberg were re-elected directors, and- .Messrs Alfred Caselberg/ (Pahiatua) and David Nathan (Wellington) were added to the board of - directors. . Messrs Chennells and Badham were elected auditors.
