LABOUR LEGISLATION. SYDNEY, September 20. The Arbitration Bill was got through Committee in the Assembly last evening, and the House adjourned at nine o’clock. • _ A. new clause was embodied in the Bill providing that a fine not exceeding £IOOO,, or imprisonment not exceeding six months, shall be imposed on any person who, whether belonging to a union- or not, participates deliberately in a strike or lock-out either before the dispute can be referred to the Court of Arbitration or during the hearing before the Court. The clause also fixes high monetary penalties for non observance or breaches of the Court’s orders or awards. ! WOMEN’S FRANCHISE. SYDNEY, September 20., .In the State Legislative Council there was a warm debate on the Women’s Franchise Bill. The Hon J. Want carried an amendment by 19 to 16 eliminating the clauses preventing women sitting in Parliament, after the Hon. F. B. Suttor, the Government repre tentative, had announced that if the Council decided that the danse should be eliminated the Government would still stick to the Bill.
