ENGLISH AVERAGES. . (Received September 20, 9.50 p.m.) LONDON, September 20. The records for the cricket season just closed show that nine batsmen exceeded 2000 runs end eleven averaged 50 runs per innings. Abel made 3309. average 55; Fry, BU7, average 7s; Tydesley, 8041, average 55; Hayward, 2535, average 50; Eanjitsinhji 2468, average 70. 1 Qnaife’s average was 56, McGahev’s 48, Jone’a 46, Jesßop’s-40, Lilly’s 39, Gunn’s and Braund's 36, Garnett’s 35, Maclaren’s 31, Robson’s 15, Blythe’s 6. . Bowling—Rhodes 251 wickets, average 15; Hirst 183, average 16; Hayward 30, aver age 20; Blythe 93, average 23; Quaifa 44, average 23; Gunn 92, average 23; Jones 56, average 27; McGahey 52, average 28; Brannd 120, average 30; Jesaop's 29, aver, age 31. 7 Barnes, who completes Maclaren’s team, bowled once taking six wickeds for 16 runs.
MIDLAND CLUB*. - The annual meeting of members of the Midland Cricket Club was held at the fjocadero last evening. There was, a large attendance, and Mr*A. Blackloek (vice president) occupied the chair. The report congratulated on the‘results of last season’s play, which was the, most successful in the history of the club. The first eleven bad ties with the Wellington Club for the Senior. Cham, pionship. The second and third elevens each won their respective championships —the latter for the first time since the in. traduction of third.class matches. The balance-sheet showed that the club had £4 9s 'sd in cash, assets valued at £46 6s 11a and no liabilities. : The report and balance sheet were adopt, ed. . • Messrs W. O- Bock, W. Spence, P. J. Moran, W. S. Hood, E. Luke, F. C. Hay, J. R. Wallace and L. Qodber were elected active members' of the club. Mr J. A. Coster (re elected,, for the fifth year). The chairman 7 then presented the tro. phies donated by the president for the best batting and bowling averages in the ; three, teams, as follows; —Seniors, K. Tucker (batting). E. F. Upham (bowling); second, eleven, J. E. Jones (batting), T. Johnson (bowling); third eleven, P. Staples (batting), O. Webb (bowling). The trophy presented by Mr P. Grady to the member showing most improvement jdur. ing the season was presented to Mr R. Moss.
