Notwithstanding this there was an in. crease of .£340 on the totalisator returns for the two days as compared with the two corresponding days of last year. HASTERTON, September 19. , The Hasterton Racing Club, has just effected considerable improvements on the course in view of the meeting to be held on the 3rd and 4th of October. A new public stand, capable of seating 250 poo, .pie, has been erected outside. This mokes •two stands on the ground. The totalisa. tor house has been placed in a more con. venient position. A new publican's booth and stewards' room have been provided, am} other appointments have been made, which will bring the Hasterton course into “ n 0 with the best in the province. The club has decided to pay out on the first and second horses at the coming meeting, and suitable provision has been made for this In the absence through illness of Mr P. Duncan, Mr A. J.i Hathaway will act ns secretary. It is: probable that at the next meeting a telephone will be laid on to the course; ■ ■ WELLINGTON RACING CLUB. 'The report and balance-sheet of the Wellington Racing Club to be presented at the annual general meeting of mem bers of the club on the 30tn inst. has been • printed and circulated. The steward* in their report state tiiat four race meetings . were held dur ing the racing year, ana the fctakes given- by the club wero competed for by most of the best horses in i\lew ilealand, the racing being of a very high character, and j;he attendance of tne public larger than previous year of the club’s existence. The decision of the Court of Appeal was not favourable, to the club. Permission ha* been granted for an appeal to the Privy Council, and steps are now being taken in conjunction with other clubs to secure a reversal of the ruling of tbe ■ Court of Appeal. One effect of the decision above referred to is to make it necessary for stewards to curtail, as far as is possible, the: expenditure on further improvements to the club's enclosures.
