PRESS ASSOCIATION, CHRISTCHURCH, August 6. The Canterbury Pharmaceutical Society disagrees with the Wellington and Otago chemists as to compulsorily closing chemists’ shops on statutory halfholidays and Sundays, and suggests that chemists he allowed to dispense medical men’s prescriptions only at any hour on statutory half-holidays and Sundays. At the Supreme Court, Walter Brewer, convicted of performing an illegal opera, tion, was sentenced to twelve month's* imprisonment. The (lightness of the sentence was due to the youth of the accused, who is only eighteen years of age. Charles McCutcheson was sentenced today to three years’ imprisonment for forging and uttering a cheque. ' ASHBURTON, August 6. A meeting of farmers is arranged for Saturday next, in order to take steps to form a farmers’ union.
