MELBOURNE, August 1. The Earl of Hopetoun, Governor-Gen-eral of Australia, received a farewell letter from the Duke G f Cornwall on the eve of his departure from Fremantle. His Royal Highness said he would over remember the memorable and stirring days which witnessed Australia’s new political birth, and ho wished to ex_ press his warmest thanks for the kindnesses the Duchess and himself had received. He speaks highly of the cadet movement, in which ho' think lie s a strong power for good. He had also been struck by the educational advantages provided for the children. Tho letter added that the Duke and Duchess took leave of the colonies with many regrets. The Commonwealth" and its people would over have a warm place in their hearts.
(Received (August 1. 10.46 p.m.) LONDON, August 1. The “ Standard ” states that the Duke of Cornwall’s letter to Lord Hopetoun is interesting and suggestive and worthy the historic visit. The journey, says the paper, has confirmed the Duke’s Imperialism.
