Mr F. Pirani, M.H.R. for Palmerston, received news last night of the death of his mother, which took place at Melbourne.

His Excellency the Governor, accompanied by the Hon C. Hill-Trevor, returned from the North by the Government train last evening. Mr J. F. McClelland, who has been incharge of the butter and stores department of th e Wellington Meat Export Company, is leaving the company’s ser. vice to take up a position in the office of Messrs T. B. Mac Ewan and Co., pro. duce merchants. , Ho was last night made the recipient of a silver ink-stand and pen as a token of the esteem in which he is held by his fellow-officers.
