traffic by-laws. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent). K y B Friday, 7.5 p.m. At a meeting of carters and sawmillers with regard to the_ County Council’s new by-law regulating heavy traffic. the opinions of Messrs Brandon, Hisiop and Brandon, and Mr T. F. Martin, soliattore, of Wellington, were read. These were to the effect that th® by-laws could not b e upset, the Council haying postponed for twelve months the collection of the license fees on timber, vehicles and traction engines. The retention «f those interested to raise a fund to fight the prosecutions was accordingly awodoned. Th© matter has been, under th© notice of the I?re* miwr, who wired that it had been referred to the Minister of Lands for con- ! j;deration. Resolutions were carried, to 1 \n forwarded to the member for the 1 with a view to provision beI Tug made under th© new Govern* meat Act that local bodies may not jav© power make such charges. One sy.law provides that all heavy 1 must cease from May to September, ex- ’ oept on roads advertised as exempt- The I hy-laws come into force on Monday, 1 but. so faf, riot-Qua road has' been i exempted.
