COLONEL GUDGEON’S SECRETARY KILLED. WRECK OP A BARQUE. PRESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, June 28. News by the -Taviuni states that Mr P. Goodwin, secretary to the British Resident at Rarotonga, was killed by the explosion of a rocket on June 11th. Four natives were injured at the same time. The barque John Gambles, bound from Peru to Auckland with a cargo of raw sugar "rr the Colonial Sugar Company, went ashore on a leef near Papeete on May 34th. The vessel was short of water and called off Papeete for a supply. In a calm a current took charge of the vessel and carried her on a reef. The captain and crew arrived at Auckland by the Taviuni.
