The exiled Queen. Ranavaalona of Madagascar, who has been detained by the French in Algeria since she was deported from Madagascar, is said to be greatly distressed at a report which was recently circulated that she had attempted to escape on board a British cruiser. She has explained that on the evening on which the supposed attempt is "said to have been made she was actually at the theatre attending a performance of ''Carmen, J ’ and her exiled Majesty is u a state of great anxiety lest this utterly unfounded report should interfere with the visit to Paris, on which she has, ser, her heart. The Queen was extrsr.iely desirous of visiting Paris during the Exhibition, but the Government refused consent. Since the Exhibition o’osed the Queen has renewed her appeals to be allowed to visit the capital, and a.’ out three weeks ago, to her unbounded delight, she was informed that her wish might shortly he gratified. Since that intimation the Queen has lived in a since of the greatest excitement, and dress--makers have been very busy preparing the costumes fin which the exiled Qu. < n hopes to take the Parisians by storm. The precise date of the visit was to De fixed by M. Jomnart, the Governor-Gen-eral, on his return to Algeria, and the Queen’s anxiety is great lest the false report of her -attempted escape should induce the Government to revoke the permission. previously given.
